Join our 40th birthday celebrations!

It’s our birthday! We’ve lined up a month of fundraising for the Bronglais Chemotherapy Unit, plus some seriously exciting prizes.

Party hats on! It’s time to wish a huge penblwydd hapus to us!
Hennighan’s is turning 40 this month and we’ll be celebrating hard.
In our time we’ve achieved some amazing things – winning the Best in Wales three times and making the Top 10 Fish & Chips in the UK are definitely a few highlights. But there’s still room for more!
We wanted to take this occasion to remember where we came from and make our founders Janet and Richard proud. We’ll spend our birthday month raising money for a charity close to our heart and giving out some seriously exciting rewards to our customers.
Keep your eyes peeled and your stomach ready for all the 40th birthday celebrations we’ve got in store this June. We can’t wait!

Where we started…

Some of you might remember our birth 40 years ago! Our father and grandfather, Richard, was uncertain about a future in the building trade and followed his goal of opening a fish and chip shop. Janet (our mother and grandmother) finished training as a nurse and bravely left to run what became Hennighan’s Top Shop in 1982.
They handed the reins to their son David and his wife Eleanor after a small refurb in 1995 and they’ve been winning over Welsh customers ever since.
Now, a third generation brings even more. We won the Best Contribution to the Community Award in 2007 and 2014 and have continued to fry up our top takeaways all the while.
We’ve had to think on our feet over the last few years, but even a global pandemic couldn’t stop us! Once a corner shop and a dream, it’s grown to be a thriving family business and home to the best fish and chips in Mach.

Celebrating with the community

Family has always been at the top of our priority list, so we’re beginning our 40th birthday celebrations with a charity that means a lot to the Hennighans. All month, we’ll be fundraising for the Bronglais Chemotherapy Unit in Aberystwyth.
The Bronglais Chemotherapy Unit has touched our lives and countless others across Ceredigion, Gwynedd, and Powys. We’re working with 87 local businesses to raise £10,000 to improve and maintain the Unit.
Jemma is kicking this off by running 40km throughout June. She’s aiming to raise £250 towards the Unit during our 40th birthday celebrations (and it’s looking great so far). Best of luck, Jemma – we’ll be cheering you on all the way!
You can support Jemma by donating to her JustGiving page here; all funds will go to the Bronglais Unit.
On top of this, we’re going back to our roots and offering £1 fish and chips – the price we sold them for back in 1982. Those were the days!

What do points mean..?

We’re also running a birthday scratch card campaign throughout June – customers could win prizes donated by the amazing local businesses in Mach. There are glamping pods, spa days, meals out, cottage stays, and even a 2 day stay at Celtic Manor..
The odds are pretty great, too! We’ve got 5000 scratchcards on offer, so be sure to look out for our birthday scratch cards when they launch this June.
We’re so grateful for the kindness of our community throughout our 40th birthday celebrations and we’d like to thank every one of you who donated to help us raise money for the Unit.
Why not add a scratch card to your next Hennighan’s order? The proceeds are going to a truly life-altering cause and we’d love to see you get lucky.

The future for Hennighan’s

These celebrations are only the beginning. We’ve got big plans lined up for Hennighan’s this year!
We’re proud to announce we’re opening up a new shop just 250 yards down the road from us. Hennighan’s Bottom Shop will be a takeaway and eat-in restaurant, so you can sit in and enjoy all your Hennighan’s favourites plus a few new treats.
We’ve been working on this since January 2021 and we’re so excited to grow our business. Don’t worry, Top Shop will be open as normal!

Celebrate 40 phenomenal years of Hennighan’s Top Shop with us. We’ll be posting updates on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
You can also follow Jemma’s progress and donate to the Bronglais Chemotherapy Unit via her JustGiving page here.
